Silvia Stclair: Well, first of all it depends on the pathology: for hypertyroidism (when your gland works too much and you burn much more than what you eat) you should avoid salt with iodine (iodine is enemy no.1 for those suffering from hypertyroidism, in facts they should also aboid to go to the seaside); for hypotyroidism instead (when your gland doesn't work sufficiently, and you assimilate more than you eat), you should follow a hypocaloric diet and exercise constantly. Brice Greczkowski: I have had hypothyroidism for 20 years - please check which type of thyroid problem you are having and go from there. If you are taking thyroid medicine such as synthroid - you should take it early in the monring and not eat anthing for an hour or 2 for best absorbtion - soy products interfere with thyroid medicine so I avoid those as well. Do anything to rev up your metabolism - Vitamin B products are excellent. Eat plenty of protein, green veggies and avoid trans fat. Get plenty of exercise and rest - stay warm as hypo patients may get cold easy and have your blood levels checked on a regular basis to monitor how you are doing especially if you take meds....Show more
