How many deaths were ever caused by disease?

Eli Trapeni: Bazillions.

Mickey Isle: Its impossible to know. But, in all the years people have ever existed, probably billions.

Patrica Loertscher: All deaths not caused by mortal injury are caused by disease! You don't really die of "old age", you die from the effects of diseases you get when you are old.

Nannie Kasee: Wow, that is a tough question. I can only answer a small part. The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 was by far the most destructive pandemic in history, it killed some 50 million to 100 million people worldwide in just 18 months, dwarfing the bloodshed due to World War I (1914-1918). Many of its victims were healthy young adults, in contrast to most influenza outbreaks which predominantly affect juvenile, elderly, or otherwise weakened patients. And that was just one virus! Not to mention all the other diseases that preceded the era of antibiotics and vaccines such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, dysentery, polio, typhoid fever, measles, ! smallpox, and on and on. Add to that all the non-infectious diseases such as cancers, diabetes, genetic diseases. I don't know if anyone knows or even could know the acutal number of deaths by all diseases....Show more
