Question about an general discharge from the Army..?

Tillie Wynott: It depends on the employer, but...In general terms, it's not going to be viewed quite as poorly as an actual BCD, but it's definitely not going to be viewed in the same light as even a general/uncharacterized discharge. And OTH means you aren't going to be doing government work, at least not for a long while and certainly nothing at higher GS grades.Likewise, defense contractors probably are out as is anything that would require a background check and especially a clearance.Civilian employers may or may not care about the OTH discharge. Most large corporations probably will care and are likely to view an OTH around the same way they've view an applicant with a criminal record, especially if it's very recent. In short, the absolute only reason you'd want to take an OTH is if you're requesting separation in lieu of court-martial ahead of an Art. 32 and TDS is telling you you have absolutely no hope.Otherwise, you're much better of fighting the whole way and dem! anding your rights to a board rather than just signing waivers and your chapter packet....Show more
