Tricia Dossous: That was CRAZY! I've heard that song a thousand times, but never paid attention to the video. Now that you've pointed it out,it is really funny.I mean you got a disco ball with a huge bow on it,some weirdo in makeup wh an eye patch, and a couple of arms wh long *** fingernails.Alot of video's from the 80's are crazy like that, but I love them..Lets see..There's a few that come to mind..Brad Paisleys so much cooler on line..is kinda funny but it's supposed to be.I don't think,The Dead or Alive gang meant to be funny, they thought they were being cool!...Show more
Valentine Michaud: Well that was obnoxious. Good. But obnoxious. Better than I could do, I only play acoustic.
Sammie Bocanegra: You seem like a secure player! Very talented - be proud.I wouldn't say like "your teacher doesn't know what he's talking about!", I can see a point in his argument. I'd say there's too little connection with the audience. You're up there, doing your thing rather th! an "entertaining", so to speak. Have more contact and I'd give you 100/100 any day. However, your teacher is kind of nuts. The people beating you guys must have been heavenly good, or I call BS on your teacher.Getting thrown out of the top-3 because you "lack the risk element" is bullshit. This is a friendly talent contest, not an audition for Black Sabbath!...Show more
Keven Drumgole: Well, you might ask the teacher what he means by "the risk element". I mean, we're talking high school musician, and you've only been playing four years. And as far as "don't entertain", check out some Eric Clapton, BB King or Roy Orbison videos. They, like a ton of others, let their music do the talking: no flashy costumes, playing tricks and gimmicks, just pure artistry. It would be nice if the teacher had something USEFUL to say. I'm reminded of the saying "Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach." Anyway, for four years playing, technically you sounded OK. It seemed a littl! e out of synch with the drums from time to time, but it stayed! reasonably smooth. As you might gather from my Clapton comparison, I don't go for the behind the back stuff. It's cute, and might get a squeal from your girlfriend, but working on precision, tone and musicianship is more important this early in your playing. The good part that coincided with the behind-the-back thing was the change in tone - if it was on purpose and not just an accident of the gimmick. You might also consider varying from the rapid-fire hit-every-note-you-can style. Think about the song and what you're trying to express in your solo. That is - what does the song mean to YOU, and how will your solo paint that picture in sound? If it's fast, fine, but sometimes it might be a big, fat bend, or a deep whammy dive.Fast pickers are a dime a dozen, nothing special, and appeal to a very limited segment of the music world. Try listening to and learning other styles, and then incorporating different bits into your playing. This will help you develop your 'sig! nature sound'. You might also want to practice on an acoustic from time to time - it will help clean up your playing so you're not relying on the electronics to make up for your inexperience. Then, as your playing gets cleaner, you can add in the effects, not just for the sake of effects, but to obtain the specific tone you want for each measure of each song.Cheers....Show more
