Linwood Mccory: Ooohhh...I love San Antonio! Near the Riverwalk? Was there for a wedding in November last year and now am thinking about moving there in a couple years.Anyway, yes there are some differences. Apartments are usually rented out by property management companies, whereas homes are usually rented out from an individual (landlord.) Sometimes people hire a management company to handle the renting and issues regarding their homes though. Usually an apartment security deposit is a couple hundred dollars, or more depending on your credit. In homes, the up front security deposit is typically 1 month rent, sometimes more depending on credit.Apartments usually have a standard guideline they use to determine whose applications they accept, while renting from a private owner of a house, if you have ba! d credit they will sometimes be swayed to take a risk on you. Also, landlords want to meet you to get to know you, because you are renting a home they own. Apartments just want your documentation.Houses require more maintenance...you are responsible for gardening, basic maintenance (replacing outside light bulbs, etc.). Good luck!...Show more
Carter Edstrom: A rental property falls under most of the same conditions of a rental apartment, because it is a rented domicile. In order for a landlord to be able to rent the property, they have to abide by many rules from the state. It all really depends on the laws and what you and the landlord agreed to. For example, in California a landlord is required to provide adequate heat, plumbing and electricity for their tenants. That only means that the home can not have a broken heater, bad pipes and dangerous electrical outlets it does not mean the landlord has to offer you the actual service. That is provided by the utility c! ompany. In Florida (where I lived), my parents rented a house w! ith a backyard from the property owner. The agreement on their lease was that the landlord would provide yard services for an additional fee on the rent. The only real difference between a rental apartment and a rental house is probably the response to maintenance. Most apartments have an on-site maintenance employee 24 hours a day, but in a rental house you may have to wait a few days unless it is an emergency. Good luck in your new home....Show more
Emile Okafor: It's usually about the same except you may be responsible for any lawn/pool maintenance. Any capital expenses (roof, A/C, etc...) should still be taken care of by the owner but read your lease carefully and see what you are or aren't liable for.
