what are some quotations from the 1920's about jazz?

Buddy Ardd: Here is what George Gershwin told his biographer about his 1924 composition Rhapsody in Blue, considered a jazz classic:"It was on the train, with its steely rhythms, its rattle-ty bang, that is so often so stimulating to a composer â€" I frequently hear music in the very heart of the noise... And there I suddenly heard, and even saw on paper â€" the complete construction of the Rhapsody, from beginning to end. No new themes came to me, but I worked on the thematic material already in my mind and tried to conceive the composition as a whole. I heard it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America, of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our metropolitan madness. By the time I reached Boston I had a definite plot of the piece, as distinguished from its actual substance."Cowen, Ron (1998), "George Gershwin: He Got Rhythm" The Washington Post Online: (Quotation re inspiration on the train)"Paul Whiteman - The King of Jazz, described it as '! the folk music of the machine age'."http://www.buzzle.com/articles/jazz-music-in-the-1......Show more

Hong Hunkin: You can't have looked very hard. Google the jazz age, roaring 20s.

Hyo Hardell: Fun wedding theme! The dress will certainly help with the theme! It doesn't have to be short, but something a little slinky and jazzy would be great. I also think either instead of a veil or after you remove the veil, you should wear a white, flapper-style headband! Something really beautiful and unique. Research the tux style for that period too. Of course, you need a jazz band. Other than a nice centerpiece that brings in the theme, maybe a signature 1920s-influenced cocktail, and jazz/1920s themed favors, you don't need to go too over the top. It's not a themed birthday party or costume party, after all. You'll want to keep it subtle and classy....Show more
