Vince Delarge: I am not saying beat them. I'm not dumb.I am saying to defend myself for enough time to be able to run away...I'm not planning on beating 5 attackers and knocking them all out. I just need a method of self defense to have sufficient time to run away....Show more
Derrick Smsith: the best way to defend from this kinds of threats is to learn taekuondo because in this art you attack from a distance
William Vickerman: Any is a good start. In my opinion, Krav Maga. It is a hand to hand combat system designed by the Israeli Army. It is a street fighting combat martial art, it has no belt rankings and it is not a sport.Krav Maga is easy to learn, it uses quick strikes and grappling to give u what u need, to finish people and escape with the maiximum damage and the least amount of effort. Krav Maga is a proven martial art haveing being tested in battle by Israeli Special Forces. It teaches you how to fight off multiple attackers, knives and guns....Show ! more
Whitney Saborido: Yes, technically it is a martial art.
Joellen Zorrilla: Try UFC. I did boxing and wrestling and I highly reccomend both. I can knock anyone out now
Chris Wilczewski: Yes, it is a martial art, albeit a very restrictive one. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is gaining in popularity precisely for this reason. Anyone who has ever been in a bar fight knows that you will trade some punches but will always end up on the ground.
Bettye Arre: Hello, I recently moved down to Bogota, Colombia from the United States. It is very dangerous where I currently live. I have been mugged three times at knife points in the six months I have lived here.I need a style that can help me defend myself against a single or multiple attackers with knives.I want your opinions on what I should study.Links to websites or references would be great too :)...Show more
Melissa Lavallie: While you may learn proper use of shuriken in the Bujinkan, not every instruct! or teaches it, or has learned it. There are numerous tradition! al martial arts that still teach shurikenjutsu, and each school has it's own style of shuriken and ways to throw them.In the Bujinkan, if you're exposed to shuriken at all, it's likely that you'll only learn to use the senban shuriken, as they are a common fixture in Togakure-Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu. However, Kukishinden ryu has a sort of uchibari bo shuriken (basically, a polygonal stick-like throwing knife) which is also similar to a sort of bo shuriken used in Togakure-Ryu. As well, there's an arrow-point shuriken called jujiken (so called for their cross-shape) that are found in Togakure-ryu -- the arrow-point on a cross shaped shuriken often called yajuji.Other notable schools that I can think of right now with techniques for throwing shuriken are Yagyu Shinkage Ryu and Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu....Show more
Keven Drumgole: yes
Lissette Semon: (Sparks shooting from my head.) (Crackling sound) Honestly I am not much of an MMA fan, if you have question on T! raditional martial arts though....
Oswaldo Rayburn: You should take some classes on how to handle a gun. Once you learn, then you should carry a gun with you; you're not gonna kill them, it's just to scare them. In martial arts, I think you should take Kung Fu.
Faustino Mellerson: Why is it that people know absolutely nothing about MMA and sports in general but have such strong ignorant opinions??? I hear people trying to say Silva is scared of Weidman and he's duck him and shiz but Weidman's top opponent was Demian Maia, who isn't even in the MW division anymore. His second top would be Munoz, whose wrestling SUCKS despite what people may say (Watch Kendall grove and Okami fight for proof), Munoz has great wrestling credentials but it doesn't transition well into MMA, it's two things, MMA wrestling and amateur wrestling. Maia vs Weidman was perhaps the MOST BORING fight EVER too so forget that. On top of that Silva is trying to fight GSP who is a WAYYYYYYYYY be! tter wrestler. He has been dominating wrestlers for years. Weidman may ! be a lil bigger but he still isn't even on the same level as GSP. Weidman has 10 pro fights, that's it. Hasn't ever fought a TRUE top 10 MW either. But people are riding him like a hoe. Also, GSP vs Silva is a good match up. People say Silva is fighting the smaller guy and say he walks around 220 lbs (Which is complete bullshiz, if you see him at 205 he's a lil chubby there actually). He walks around 210 tops. What do they think, GSP walks at 170? GSP is a HUGE WW, he'ss decked in muscle, look at his damn legs! There's a reason he's such a good wrestler. Also, Silva is 4 inches taller than GSP but only has 1 inch reach on him. Jones is 2 inches taller than Silva but hold a HUGE 8 inch reach against him and it's a HUGE difference when you know Silva is a striker and likes to counter strike. The physical disparity between Jones and Silva is much more than between GSP and Silva. Also, why the fusk do people all of a sudden think Jones is soooo much better than GSP? GSP's wrestl! ing is better than Jones and he is also more technical in his strking. There's a reason Jones didn't try to take Rashad down, he was worried about not being able to. GSP has never worried about that, he has done whatever the fusk he wants. Stuff Takedowns from wrestlers and take them down himself. On top of that in case people have forgotten GSP was ranked #1 p4p untill he had one bad showcase against Serra and then he was considered #2. Since then he avenged his losss, whooped Serra in their rematch, and has completely dominated all his oponents, yet Jones who has only been at the top for about a year now, people are trying to argue him to be the best. Silva has finished all but 2 people, faster and more impressively than Jones, so #1 goes to Silva, #2 well that's between Jones and GSP. GSP has beaten all his division members, it's not his fault Rampage, Rashad, and Machida aren't in his weight class. If GSP had the same physical advantages as Jones then it'd be wrap. In o! ther words, STOP BITCHINGGGGGGG ABOUT SILVA fighting GSP and not wantin! Jones. He has stated numerous times he has friends in the LHW division and is also friends with JBJ. Ya'll might want to see that fight but guess what? Silva don't need that money no more, he can just look at his friendship and think about that. All I hear are playground talks like "Oh Silva is scared" really? The top P4P fighter who has never lost in UFC and has finished all but 2 of his opponents is scared, it's not because his reason for not fighting JBJ certainly couldn't be the reason he stated right? Ya'll know him soooo much better. Idiots. He could say he wants a hot dog cuz he's hungry and what ya'll gon say is Silva wants a d-ck in his mouth cuz he's gay. Smh. too many idiots. No question. It's called Yahoo Answers. I got an answer. Lol....Show more
Marvel Mcaulay: Of course. And probably the best, for regular fighting - not military operations. Other arts teach certain more dangerous techniques, but in most fights set up as a duel, which is what most peopl! e are talking about, a boxer will win all others.
Ardelia Liptow: BTW I live in London
Talisha Digrande: I would call it more a martial skill, like any of them that have real combat application or would really work on the street. I wouldn't call it a martial art, only because for me, that denotes something that is artisy and done for tradition. Kinda like all those kata weilding arts out there. I'd say yes to martial but use skill not art.
Long Woltjer: tl;dr
Pasquale Pollet: It is most often considered a martial sport, bare knuckle boxing is considered a martial art. Trivia : Before the Marquis of Queensbury rules were introduced to boxing it was actually more like MMA, a mixture of striking and grappling.
Mitchel Demry: No, boxing is not a martial art. By definition, "martial" means "outlawed" as in karate in ancient Japan. Too many FIGHTING STYLES call themselves MARTIAL ARTS. Only arts that were once outlawed should hold this title. Anot! her example is Japanese Ju-Jitsu (martial art) and Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu! (fighting style). BJJ has never been outlawed but Japanese ju-jitsu was at one point to where common people couldn't practice it.
Soraya Coodey: What the f*ck are supposed to be, Ninja Gaiden or something?
Dallas Bartolini: Ur an American u will be targeted in countries like that because they think u have $ and kidnappings arent unheard of there either so be careful. Find out what kinds of martial arts are in your area then decide on what u want to learn. U could get a gun too but just like any other weapon it could be taken from u then used on u. Be careful and good luck
Chet Nozick: your not jackie chan. i doubt you can beat multiple attackers with weapons. be realistic in whatever you choose. get a gun if you must, but a safer option would be to move!
Queenie Ruthers: boxing martial art
Lavelle Viveiros: perhaps if you made your question shorter....
Jesse Pirieda: I'm excited to see GSP return too. I know he's received flack for some o! f his performances, but I think he was fighting smart. If he does have a good showing this upcoming fight, eventually we will have to see GSP vs. Silva...But 1st things 1st...Nick Diaz vs. GSP. As I'm sure you remember, they were supposed to square off just before GSP blew out his knee..Back to Silva. Eventually, he's gonna need a real challenge. I hope GSP will be the one to give it to him. Bones Jones would definitely give Silva that challenge. There might come a time where the fans demand to see it. I think it would spark as much excitement as Ali vs. Foreman. Side note: What about that Overeem guy? He's been sidelined almost as long as GSP. If he comes back clean and ready to fight, he might be a force to be reckoned with.....Show more
Eva Lichlyter: I am 14 and would love to learn to throw shuriken is there a martial art that teaches it or a way to learn?
Coralie Goldsberry: Martial arts means simply: The methods of war. War is a conflict between opponents.! By these definitions (from the dictionary, not my opinion) any time yo! u use a skill to defeat an opponent can be considered a martial art. What this means is that boxing, wrestling, chess, even tennis and football can technically be considered martial arts. Now, don't get your panties in a wad, let me finish. You have all heard the saying "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight". Pete Sampras isn't going to open up a can of whoop@ss on a guy with his racket. He has a skill for a particular type of contest. All martial arts teach specific techniques to deal with a specific situation, whether it's street self defense, tournament competition, or just self expression. Being able to do one of those things doesn't make you good at the others. You can agree with me or not. But by definition, boxing and wrestling are martial arts....Show more

Galen Gowers: Yes. It's the only Martial art and Martial sport to have it's own segment here at Yahoo! Answers (Bummer!!!)Maybe they should start an MMA segment here as well. Yeah! That would be a Great Idea! You think?
Bettye Arre: First off I would like to say that your question was an excellent one. I used to be like you, I didn't have the muscle and I wasn't fit. I chose Judo because it looked cool. But soon after I began to understand the respect, tradition and the self-defense moves applicable to the real world. If your not fit, don't worry! In Judo, you use your entire body's strength, your opponents force, gravity and weight to help you with your throws and sweeps. As you go on, you will develop your entire body strength. You will als! o increase in speed and coordination. This can blow off some steam and ! also relieve yourself from stress so I think this will be the right one for you. Hope this helps!...Show more

Refugio Gastineau: Yes, it is a ma! rtial art, even though it has a category of it's own. Boxing is very effective. MMA fighters (good ones) know the importance of cross-training boxing
Lashawnda Anteby: First, Shuriken is a deadly weapon and if you happen to throw it mistakenly on the wrong target, say a person, you will end up in juvenile detention/court. Augustus Sarria: i think yo uare mixing a martial art and a fighting art. Martial Art besides fighting involves health system, military strategy and just a way of life. Im sure better boxing has all of these concerns, but not to the extant that the fulll systems such as certain types of gong fu or aikido do. Boxing is a sport, it has rules of engagement. Martial Arts might not. Boxing fought on the street might become a martial art since th! e gloves are off?
Douglass Sarley: yes it is a martial art by def! initioncheck out the wiki on martial arts for clarification
