Buster Buchko: yes, i think they are both equally important to a diverse, productive society. science without art lacks innovation which is the impetus to advancing civilization. the world doesn't need people to simply compile facts and regurgitate information. we already have computers for that. learning information doesn't really make for a better society. it's what we do with that information that makes all the difference. it is the arts and humanities that teach us to see things from different perspectives and to appreciate alternate and unconventional viewpoints. learning to think outside the box is what leads to the aforementioned innovation. likewise, arts and humanities need science and math because it is the latter 2 that allow the former to be produced. the computers, software, cameras, paints, pencils, etc. have been produced, improved, and produced again because science and math have found better, more efficient means of productions. the focus on math and scie! nce in education while simultaneously ignoring the arts and humanities is a disservice to both and a benefit to neither. education should focus equally on both and both will benenfit and so too will society....Show more
